We Celebrated Christmas in EPRC!

Merry Christmas from Vietnam

Although it is not a Vietnamese tradition to celebrate Christmas, we decided we would share our Santa Claus with Vietnamese children of the village!

First he distributed his presents to EPRC keepers’ kids, then rode his bike along with his reindeers-volunteers around Cuc Phuong, with a bag full of presents and treats, in search of children who have been kind this year…

Besides, thanks to our Santa-keepers, EPRC gibbons also have discovered their Christmas tree and opened their presents!!

We wish you all end of year greetings on behalf of EPRC team!

Inspiring Youth to Care About Primates Conservation

EPRC Welcome Young People From All Over The World.

Our center has been packed with school groups during the whole month of October.

This year we had the pleasure to receive teenagers from a Hong Kong school for the first time, but also the 6th grade pupils of the United Nations International School of Hanoi, who are now coming every year!

We are always particularly enthusiastic to catch the attention of the young publics, who will be the wildlife protectors of tomorrow. Educating the youth about facts and issues facing Vietnam primates is more demanding than a classic tour! It is also the occasion for EPRC to make it fun and truly memorable, so our little visitors will not only take pictures but hopefully be driven to take a stand for them against extinction.

Truyền Cảm Hứng Bảo Tồn Linh Trưởng Trong Giới Trẻ

EPRC Chào mừng những người trẻ tuổi từ khắp nơi trên thế giới.

Trung tâm của chúng tôi chật kín với những đoàn học sinh thăm quan suốt cả tháng Mười. Năm nay, chúng tôi lần đầu tiên rất hân hạnh được đón đoàn thanh thiếu niên đến từ trường quốc tế Hồng Kông, và cả đoàn học sinh hàng năm của Trường Quốc tế Liên Hợp Quốc tại Hà Nội!

Chúng tôi luôn vui khi có được sự chú ý của giới trẻ, những người sẽ là người bảo vệ động vật hoang dã trong tương lai. Việc giáo dục giới trẻ về các hiện trạng và vấn đề mà người Việt Nam đang phải đối mặt đòi hỏi nhiều hơn là một tour du lịch thông thường! Đây cũng là dịp để EPRC làm cho nó trở nên thú vị và thật sự đáng nhớ, vì vậy những vị khách nhỏ của chúng tôi sẽ không chỉ đến đây để chụp ảnh mà sẽ còn hi vọng được dẫn dắt để chống lại sự tuyệt chủng.

Our Loris Reintroduction Program A Success!

Pygmy Lorises released in the forest!

Two of our Pygmy Lorises have been considered physically fit to take up the challenge of being released in the forest! These last months, our keepers Khoa, Thanh and Luc have been working on the project with Eleonora, a primatologist from Italy, who came to support the re-introduction program as a volunteer.

In the first phase of the program, the team focused on finding an ideal location for the release in Cuc Phuong Parc. They were careful to select an area abundant in suitable trees to help the movement of the lorises, who can travel up to 5 kilometers per night. The release site had to be far enough from any roads and potential predators, and including a good access to food (tree gum, insects and fruits) for them to survive on.

Chương Trình Tái Thả Cu Li Của Hiện Tại Chúng Tôi Đã Thành Công!

Pygmy Lorises được phát hành trong rừng!

Hai trong cá thể cu li nhỏ của chúng tôi đã đạt tiêu chuẩn sức để có thể được tái thả về rừng! Trong những tháng vừa rồi, những người chăm sóc động vật của chúng tôi, anh Khoa, anh Thành và anh Lực đã làm việc dự án cùng với Eleonora, một nhà sinh vật học đến từ Ý, người đã hỗ trợ chương trình tái thả với tư cách là một tình nguyện viên.

Trong giai đoạn đầu tiên của chương trình, nhóm nghiên cứu tập trung vào việc tìm kiếm một vị trí lý tưởng cho việc tái thả ở VQG Cúc Phương. Họ đã cẩn thận chọn lựa một khu vực với nhiều phù hợp để hỗ trợ cho sự di chuyển của cu li, loài động vật có thể di chuyển 5 km mỗi đêm. Địa điểm tái thả phải cách xa đường xá và những loài ăn thịt tiềm tàng, và bao gồm cả khả năng tiếp cận với thực phẩm (nhựa cây, côn trùng và hoa quả) để chúng có thể tồn tại.

The End of the Stick Insects Season

Stick Insects Endangered

These last weeks, we have been very sorry to observe a huge population decline… of stick insects! This curious animal is a great source of proteins for our Lorises who would give anything to get a bite of it for dinner.

Although stick insects are known for their ingenious capacity to ensure their survival and protection from predators, they couldn’t escape from the sharpened sight of our volunteers squad who have been chasing them tirelessly these last months to feed our little primates.

The season has been good and enabled us to ensure sufficient supply for winter, by freezing a fair amount of stick insects and mixing them into a green creamy paste (yum!). This way our Lorises will still be able to enjoy their favorite food while stick insects are hibernating.

Những Ngày Cuối Mùa Bọ Que

Côn Trùng Gây Nguy Hiểm

Trong những tuần vừa qua, chúng tôi rất tiếc khi phải chứng kiến sự suy giảm dân số nhah chóng… của bọ que! Loài động vật kì lạ này là một nguồn proten quý báu cho cu li chúng tôi, loài động vật sẽ làm bất cứ điều gì để có được một miệng đầy bọ que cho bữa ăn tối.

Dù rằng bọ que được biết đến với khả năng ngụy trang khéo léo nhằm đảm bảo sự sống còn và bảo vệ chúng khỏi những kẻ săn mồi, chúng không thể thoát khỏi những đôi mắt sắc sảo của đội ngũ tình nguyện viên của chúng tôi.

Mùa bọ que vừa qua khá tốt và đã giúp đảm bảo được nguồn cung cấp thực phẩm đầy đủ cho mùa đông, bằng cách đông đá một lượng bọ que khá lớn và đánh sinh tố chúng thành một loại patê xanh lá cây (ngon miệng ghê!). Dựa trên phương pháp này, cu li của chúng tôi vẫn có thể được thưởng thức món ăn yêu thích của chúng khi mà bọ que còn đang ngủ đông.

Flood Aftermath! EPRC Need Your Support!

A few weeks ago, a tropical depression hit Cuc Phuong and brought heavy rain which caused terrible flooding to the whole area! EPRC was no exception and unfortunately, 30 meters of electric fence in the semi-wild area collapsed! If you haven’t supported EPRC before, now is the good time!

Primate Education Day – Trash Collecting, Primate Drawing, and More…

International Primate Day 2017

Last weekend on October 22nd, local students from Cuc Phuong Primary School experienced for the first time a full-day primate education trip in the forest that engaged them with the nature and introduced them to captive wildlife through various creative activities.

This Primate Education Day is initiated by the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, in collaboration with the Cuc Phuong National Park’s Conservation Awareness Program (CAP), with the aim of raising awareness and improving knowledge about the forest and primates in students studying and living in the buffer zone of Cuc Phuong National Park, where the EPRC is based.
